TRONGSA (alt 2316m)

Trongsa is located on the middle of the way towards Bumthang. It takes about 4 hours from Phobjikha to reach by car. Trongsa forms the central hub of the kingdom and is historically the place from where attempts at unifying the country were launched.

Trongsa Dzong

Trongsa Dzong built in 1648, is an impregnable fortress. Both the first and second King ruled the country from this ancient seat. The Trongsa festival is held in the year December. The Dzong is built in a traditional style with many levels into the side of the hill and can be seen from every approach to Trongsa exhibiting its strength as a defensive stronghold.

Ta Dzong

Above the Dzong, is a Ta Dzong, a watchtower, for the Trongsa Dzong. Now it is also consider as a living museum.

Kuenga Rabten

It is about 23 km away from the Trongsa Town and was the winter place of second King. It is an impressive building with superb wood work and decorations.
